Kalkan is situated on Turkey’s South West Coast, in a bay overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, often referred to as the ‘Turquoise Coast’ due to the amazing colour of the sea around it’s shores.
Once a small fishing village, Kalkan is now a pretty and sophisticated town catering for the discerning traveller. The old town, retains the charms of bygone days with its old stone houses and its narrow winding streets leading down to the picturesque harbour here you will find shops selling rugs, antiques, jewellery and clothes, small bars, and an abundance of excellent restaurants, many roof-top and many with live music, enjoy your meal whilst listening to jazz, blues or classical music.
At the harbour you will find from the smallest fishing boat to the most luxurious cruisers mooring. Gullets can be hired to take you on day trips to some of the islands, where you can swim ashore or just laze onboard, whilst lunch is prepared for you.
Small water taxis are available to take you to one of the many beach clubs around Kalkan Bay.

Kalkan Beach
Kakan’s Pebble beach, awarded ‘blue flag status’ lies at the end of the harbour, Whilst sun beds and pedallos are for hire the beach retains its quiet low-key atmosphere.
Beach Clubs
There are a few beach clubs with bathing platforms carved out of the rocks all offering water sports, sunbathing and bar/restaurant facilities, these can be found at: Kalamar Bay, Kormuluk Bay, Kisla Bay and Kalkan Bay.
Kaputas Beach
This beautiful picturesque cove, with its clear blue sea is just 10 minutes away by car or Dolmus, or take a boat from the harbour and swim ashore. This totally unspoilt beach has no café facilities so remember to take your own refreshments.
Patara Beach.
With 12km of unspoilt golden sand the beach is part of the national park and is a protected breeding ground for the endangered Logger Head Turtle. The beach is closed after sunset from May to October to protect the nesting sites.
There is a designated bathing area for the hired sun loungers and parasols with a small restaurant nearby. A walk away is the nearby archaeological ruins amongst these are the Triumphal Roman Arch and the uncovered amphitheatre. Buses run daily from Kalkan or 15 minute drive.
Kalkan has its own registered dive centre, which is based at the Kalamar Beach club; www.kalkandiving.com, which is PADI and CMAS, registered offering diving courses from beginners to advance.
The lively market comes to Kalkan every Thursday; here you will find almost everything from wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables, aromatic spices, and of course genuine fake labels. It is always great fun here to try out your bartering skills.
Saklikent Gorge.
The longest and deepest Gorge in Turkey, with its towering walls and crystal clear waters flowing down from the Taurus Mountains. Walk through the cooling water, laze on the raised platforms with the river Xanthos below whilst enjoying your freshly caught fish, or try rafting on the river. A truly memorable day out is just a 20-minute drive away.
The Lycian Way.
Kalkan is at the heart of the Lycian region with its stunning scenery and ancient sites.
Nearby sites include, Xanthos, Letoon, Patara, Tlos, and Myra. All within a short journey from Kalkan.

Kalkan has several banks with atm machines, supermarkets, post office, medical centre, chemists and dentist, which are all situated at the top of the old town.

With lots of sunshine hours the temperature starts to rise in April and lasts into November, with the sea temperature rising from June into the 20’s this stays until Mid November.
The main summer season can see high’s of up to 40 c with blue skies and very rarely any rain, ideal for lazy holidays and making the most of what Kalkan and Villa Katmar have to offer. Whilst early and late season the gentler climate makes it ideal for the more energetic who wish to explore the surrounding area taking in the historical sites along the Lycian Way and walking amongst the fabulous scenery surrounding Kalkan, whilst being able to rest awhile and enjoy the warmth of the sun.
